Beach Resorts in Lagos
August 15, 2022The LYBL List of Best London Restaurants for the Festive Season and Beyond
December 22, 2022The Lagos hotel scene is ever evolving with occasional new openings that endeavour to shake things up in the hospitality industry by providing visitors and staycationers with alternative options. Regardless of your personality and preferences, there’s bound to be a Lagos hotel to suit your vibe. Our list is by no means exhaustive; there are other options that we will cover in our upcoming Lagos travel guide.
LOVED BY WELL-HEELED SOCIETY LAGOSIANS, INTERNATIONAL GLITTERATI & BUSINESS TRAVELLERS
The George Lagos Hotel – It has an elegant reception area and cosy restaurant and bar/lounge. A little bit of understated refinement in the heart of Ikoyi, with a business casual vibe. Boutique-like in size and a favourite of the discerning traveller. Close your eyes, and you could be in a hotel in any country in the world, hence why it’s a big draw for the jet set, which is used to world-class standards. Celebs like Naomi Campbell and Bonang Matheba have stayed here. Discreet and laid back enough to be popular with socialites having cocktails poolside or corporate executives taking business lunches. It has a “less is more” kind of elegance.
Address: 30 Lugard Ave, Ikoyi.

The Wheatbaker – This is a great choice for any business traveller and vacationer wanting the convenience and comfort a 4-star hotel can provide. The ground floor bars/lounge areas, cafe and restaurant, are all you would expect from a higher-end hotel; lovely decor, pleasant, cosy with good menus. There are artworks on display like ‘The Release’ by Peju Alatise, and they often host a summer art exhibition.
Address: 4 Onitolo Road Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria

Seattle Residence – similar to The George Hotel, as a top pick for the international jet set who want a “home away from home in Lagos”, complete with all the offerings of a high-end hotel. Small but perfectly formed with high hospitality standards and discretion. A top-notch choice by Lagos hospitality standards.
Address: 12A Walter Carrington Crescent, Victoria Island.

MODERN / MINIMALIST, OFTEN WITH AN AFROCENTRIC EDGE – THE NEWER SPOTS
The Art Hotel – A new, unique and fresh addition to the Lagos scene. Its unique selling point is African art and culture. In keeping with the name, it displays quite a lot of art. There is a nice disposition of modernist architecture. It is new, and reviews from early guests who made it there are positive and speak of great customer service.

White Orchid Hotel – This hotel combines contemporary 5-star sleek boutique hotel decor – neutral colours, flowers, nice fitting, with some traditional African twist, i.e., a pop of colour and African fabric and art across the property.
They are conveniently located on Ademola Adetokunbo opposite Eko hotel ( but slightly further down), close to Eko hotel’s events. This hotel is housed in the Ebony life entertainment complex – with a cinema, several restaurants, and its event hall. Very convenient for people to hold events at Ebony life’s event hall or Eko hotel. You’re at the centre of all the Lagos action.
Address: 1637 Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island.

Nordic Hotel – A boutique hotel that makes business and leisure travellers feel at home. Very subtle, minimalist, and modern decor is soothing to the senses since it’s all neutral colours and wood. The poolside area is gorgeous and lush. If you’re a no-frills traveller who doesn’t care for ostentatious furnishings and wants an uncluttered zen feel, then you might like this.

THE OLD GUARD – CLASSIC MAINSTAYS
Eko Signature – The old mainstay. Lagos’ unofficial congregation and networking point. Especially for creatives and entertainers at peak periods of Easter and Xmas to New Year.
The convenience of the on-site gym, spa, and hair salon are also handy on days when you’re too tired to leave the building and brave the VI traffic. It’s also super easy for guests to visit you since everyone knows where it is and is likely to pop in either way. They also have a pool mostly frequented by children because for adults, don’t be shocked if Lagosians sit there looking at you in your swimsuit.
Address: Plot 1415 Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island.

Four points – Comfort and good amenities at a super convenient location in Oniru, just by Ozumba Mbadiwe and the Lekki toll gate, giving visitors easy access to both VI and Lekki. In a city where there’s often traffic congestion, it’s worth staying somewhere conveniently located to reduce your time in the car, even if marginally.
Address: Plot 9/10 Block 2 Oniru Chieftaincy Estate, Victoria Island 021189, Lagos

Lagos Continental Hotel – The maintenance culture, clientele, and standards have been said to have slipped over the years. On the plus side, the rooms were always well executed and remain so—nice rooms with views of Ozumba and the Lagos marina and skyline. I like the rooms because you can have a bubble bath and watch cable TV due to the glass partition nature of the bathroom within the hotel room itself.
Address: 52a Kofo Abayomi St, Victoria Island.

MOTEL VIBES
Maroko Bayshore Suite – We hadn’t heard of this hotel but were pleasantly surprised to stumble across it, and it consistently 4-4.5 out of 5 rankings on cleanliness, service, and value; the location was always going to be great as it doesn’t get any more central, Lagos wise. It’s in the same environs as the popular Salma restaurants, Cactus, etc., on Ozumba Mbadiwe. The room looks like a simple 3-4 star offering. But we also noticed a nice pool area overlooking the waterfront.
Address: 20-24 Ozumba Mbadiwe Ave, Victoria Island.

The Yacht Hotel – Lekki wasn’t known for anything close to an international hotel experience, but the yacht hotel signals a new wave of higher-quality hospitality in Lekki. This hotel is fashioned with a contemporary vibe to international hotels like The Standard, The Mondrian, and the edition. Expect contemporary decor and a cool music playlist booming from speakers in the halfway. From the minute you walk in, the cream neutrals and gilded gold trimmed fittings at reception signal a nicer 4-star change from the more economical old-school 3-star bread and breakfast lekki hotels. This hotel has a great waterfront view and pleasant views of the Lagoon at night from the rooftop bar. In my opinion, some finer details leave this short of a full 4-star, but I’ll give them an A for effort.
Address: Plot 1, block 12 Admiralty road, Lekki phase 1.

IKEJA CONTEMPORARY COOL
Lagos Marriott Hotel – A slice of the classic Marriot look, feel, and brand experience landed in the Mainland in 2021. Nice decor, vibes, instagrammable contemporary cosiness, and good service in GRA Ikeja.
Address: 122 Joel Ogunnaike St, GRA Ikeja.

Radisson Blu Hotel – A contemporary standard nice 4-star hotel in Ikeja. It’s become a favourite spot for urbanites on the mainland. Nice decor and cosy vibes. Always a good idea when you’re in GRA. Similar to the vibes you get at the older VI branch on Ozumba
(another popular Lagos hotel) or even better.
Address: 38-40 Isaac John St, Ikeja GRA.
